We met Indian violin maestro Lalgudi GJR Krishnan today. I was taken aback by what a down-to-earth, straightforward fellow he was. And he was a very nice and warm person too.
Anyway we hosted (and footed the bill for) dinner at Rendezvous Hotel's Spices of India restaurant with the Indian Advisory Committee. Since Lalgudi was vegetarian (as well as a sizeable portion of the Committee, we had spinach curry, aubergine curry, plain naan, orange juice, papadoms (sp?), yoghurt with cucumber and pistachio ice cream.
The highlight of my evening was meeting Mr Raghuraman who taught me in NUS's Global Music module. It was nice talking to him as a student (rather than as a government official...).
Most of these committee members had heard my voice over the phone before from many previous conversations while we were making arrangements for the Indian music masterclasses. Some of them were taken aback on our first meeting.
"I didn't expect you to be so... you know... you're so... tall."
Okay. LOL.
Anyway! My facebook profile picture for the month:
