You say you gotta go and find yourself
You say that you're becoming someone else
Don't recognize the face in the mirror
Looking back at you

You say you're leavin
As you look away
I know theres really nothin left to say
Just know i'm here
Whenever you need me
I'll wait for you

So i'll let you go
I'll set you free
And when you see what you need to see
When you find you come back to me

Take your time i wont go anywhere
Picture you with the wind in your hair
I'll keep your things right where you left them
I'll be here for you

Oh and i'll let you go
I'll set you free
And when you see what you need to see
When you find you come back to me

And i hope you find everything that you need
I'll be right here waiting to see
You find you come back to me

I can't get close if your not there
I can't get inside if theres no soul to bear
I can't fix you i can't save you
Its something you have to do

So i'll let you go
I'll set you free
And when you see what you need to see
When you find you come back to me
Come back to me
So i'll let you go
I'll set you free
And when you see what you need to see
When you find you come back to me

And i hope you find everything that you need
I'll be right here waiting to see
You find you come back to me

When you find you come back to me
When you find you come back to me
When you find you come back to me

I discovered this song today. I don't think it's the most spectacular song, but there's something about it that makes me want to belt out the lyrics in a yelling, rocker-like fashion. When you find youuuuuuuuuuuu, come back to meeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

James also passed me an addictive flash game about unicorns and rainbows. Haha you can play it here: Robot Unicorn Attack.

The background music is quite interesting, it's Erasure's Always, and it really gets you high while you're getting your unicorn to cruise along rainbows, stars and dolphins.

It's really funny, because if you look at the comments on the youtube page of the music video, they were all people high from Robot Unicorn who were directed to that page by the game. It's a very interesting way to advertise and publicise your music, via a flash game. I'm not sure if it was intended though.

The content of the music video itself is also some weird Liaozhai narrative.

One of my terrapins is sick =( my dad tells me to give it up, but I should probably bring it to the vet soon. He is pretty bemused about it, since my dad believes in the 'survival of the fittest'. Well, it's easy for him to say, since his discus fish recently laid an entire clutch of eggs which turned out to be the Horde.

More things to love about the MOE - lit and english is a combined subject! and taught by people who don't really know very much about lit!

Even I won't pretend to be able to teach lit, even though I am reasonably good at the subject.

From a certain senior who is currently teaching in XX school (a reasonably good school, that is to say, top 10):

XXXXXXXXXXXXX has to teach Shakespeare plays for EL (and nope, i've never taken lit beyond sec 2).

XXXXXXXXXXXXX better start reading Shakespeare or else Mrs Look will have tea with me :P

XXXXXXXXXXXXX haha not lit, now they combine lit & EL together, so they do shakespeare in EL lesson

Everyday I despise that institution more and more. It's a glorifed dump.

YAY! Bat got me the DVD for the complete director's cut for FFVII Advent Children! YAY! I was going past a gaming shop at Jurong Point and I saw these fucking unbelievable graphics for the match between Cloud and Sephiroth. It was beyond AMAZING.

As you can see, it proudly proclaims itself to be beyond high definition. Which it really is.

Screenshots:

And to add on to the bonus packaging (which was very nice and awesome and cool), they included a trial version of FFXIII, which of course features Lightning, the coolest FF heroine yet!

Damn you Japanese with your high definition technology that makes my hands itchy!!!

Long time, no update.

2 out of my 4 modules are frustratingly stupid and involves making us do extremely futile and crappy projects. Unfortunately it involves camera work, so it's really a pain.

A project mate asked me the other day as I sauntered to school in a cat tee-shirt, "Just asking, but do you really like cats?"

I replied, "Whatever gave you that idea? I mean, besides the fact that all the tee-shirts I wear to school have cats on them, or that my pencilbox is covered with cats, or my keyboard is stuck full of cat motif stickers, or my MSN display picture is a cat, besides all that, I have no idea what gave you that impression."

Maybe I should stop wearing my heart on my sleeve, literally, HAHAHA.

Anyway thanks for all the birthday wishes (SMS and facebook alike) from Eilyn, Weiling, Shenting, Amin, Jiawei, Pauline, Victor, Wenhui, Junyi, Alice, Keng Wee, Chen, Zhizhong, Kats, Benedict, Bernardine, Fernn, Denise, Jeremy (Chan), Devlin, Tammy, Lijia, Sherine, Andre, Yiran, Atticus, Yiwei, Piliang, Yihui, Tessie and Charmaine!

Had a nice lunch with Qiling at Kushinbo (lots and lots of sashimi) before having a nice dinner with Ranneth at Bakerzin.

And also I had a very nice outing with my sister to Crystal Jade for little dragon buns before going shopping! It was nice.

And finally fulfilled my long dream of going to Jurong Birdpark with James! And I got to feed lories and starlings (with nectar and mealworms) and see lots of macaws and parrots and such! James had acute back pain so we had to cut the whole trip short =(

And got fed a lot of fresh sashimi by PK and Kenneth (and his law friend Brenda). They got me a slice of brownie/choclate cake! =p

I was looking through a random foreign magazine in a store the other day and came across these ads from a british hair curler/straighter brand. It's quite interesting so I'll post it here. Well, it's interesting to me, I'm a media student.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, you're quite debonair
Now you've straightened and curled that long flowing hair
Your locks would appeal to many a suitor
So why not find someone who's taller and cuter?

Cinderella's a beauty, her hair all a-curl
No need of a prince for this stunning young girl
She's saying goodbye to glass slippers forever
And running away with a bloke dressed in leather.

Little Red Riding Hood, neither timid nor shy
Whilst straightening her locks, a wolf she did spy
But far from fainting or running a fever
She started to laugh and pulled out a cleaver

Full marks for creativity but poetry fail.

I'm reliving this song that I probably heard when I was really really young. I suddenly just thought about it the other day and did a search on youtube for it. Jacelyn came into my room while it was playing and went "OMG that song is so old that I was primary 6 when it came out!"

What can I say, I've a good memory for music.

I like the idea behind song, living a short and glorious life. But it's nice and poignant at the same time.

Sting: an elven dagger which glows in the dark whenever orcs are near, thus allowing them to find you more easily.

Horn of Gondor: Blow this horn in a moment of need, and allies will arrive in time to give you a proper burial.

The last birthday before I go out into the workforce.

Somehow this is not even a little daunting to me. I suppose I've been waiting for this for a long time. Now all that remains is to send out my resumes and prep myself for interviews and then the long climb upwards.

During the long climb this blog might or might not be defunct, considering the best way to get yourself fired is to blog about work.

I went to the Career Fair 2010 yesterday and talked quite a bit with the people from NAC, MFA, Credit Suisse, IE Singapore and NTUC income.

I don't know why everyone seems to be encouraging me to enter the government, particularly the MOE. As I've stated yesterday, I'd rather be a prostitute than enter the service of the Ministry of Education.

I suppose it is rather unfair to give such a low value to the MOE, considering I know tons of brilliant MOE scholar friends. And I know most of the MOE scholars will run to other organisations the moment their bond is complete. Unfortunately I also know tons of lazy and unmotivated people joining MOE who wouldn't be able to get a job elsewhere if they tried looking. In fact, I've lost count of the number of times I heard people tell me 'I'm joining the MOE because it is a 'safe option', or 'because I feel safer staying in academia'.

What that actually translates to is,
  • I'm afraid to go out there and look for a job where there is a possibility of getting rejected.
  • I'm afraid of the competition among colleagues that will present itself in other jobs.
  • I'm unmotivated to look for a job and MOE will definitely take me the moment I apply
  • I want a stable job that is easy. 'Easy' meaning that you don't have ANY risk of getting fired, because as we all know, MOE does not retrench you, no matter how rubbish you are, unless you molest children or something.

It's about time MOE got its act together and stop hiring reprobates who didn't even get CCC for their A levels, or are unable string a sentence together in a single language. In many ways, MOE is becoming the new SAF, looking at their hiring and quality control standards. People who wouldn't be given a second glance in the private sector hiring rounds would be welcomed with open arms at these two organisations.

I wonder if MOE's hiring standards has always been like this. Or is this a new generation of leeches which just want to stick to the biggest animals, and not try for a job that will really challenge and determine their true worth?

Little wonder that Raffles Girls' Secondary had to set up a booth at the Career Fair in NUS yesterday, instead of sourcing for teachers from the MOE.

So yep, people should stop asking me to the join the MOE, because that is beyond my last option.
